The Bribri women from Stribrawpa, Costa Rica: female empowerment trough community-based tourism
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article describes the experience of a group of Bribri indigenous women from Costa Rica in a community-based tourism initiative, Stribrawpa, which resulted in a clear dynamic of empowerment and transformation of gender relations in their community. The study was conducted from ethnographic work through three field visits in 2013, 2014 and 2018, and through in-depth interviews and focus groups. It is expected to contribute to enrich the theoretical debate on the possibilities of transformation of gender relations through community tourism and under what would be its main explanatory factors.
