Restitution of cultural property and repatriation of human remains, two burning issues on the heritage agenda in Argentina
Main Article Content
Abstract
In recent decades, legal changes and a clear policy to combat illicit trafficking in cultural property have allowed the confiscation of pieces and their return to their countries of origin. The recognition of the right of indigenous peoples to the repatriation of the remains of their ancestors received in national regulations has made possible the claims of various groups and communities.
These issues have generated profound changes in the ethical positions of scientists and museums regarding the possession and ethics of human remains collections. They have significantly marked the heritage agenda in Argentina.
