Abstract

In this paper, the advances of a research carried out in the Atacameño territory, located in the Antofagasta Region in northern Chile, are disclosed. This study aims to study the processes of collecting and patrimonialization of the bodies of the grandparents or ancestors who, since the end of the 19th century, were exhumed and distributed in national and foreign museums, by collectors and scientific expeditions developed in this sector of the Andes. The results of this work are reflected in an initial systematization of relevant collectors, museums and universities, as well as in the creation of an inventory with general information on the Atacameño collections, their characteristics and depository institutions. At the same time, dissemination and awareness-raising activities were carried out among the indigenous communities and organizations, as well as in the academic and governmental spheres.
