Abstract

Despite the fact that claims for the return of cultural property have been present for decades, in recent years they have become a central issue with extensive global coverage, both in countries of origin and in those where the pieces are located, which has generated greater awareness in these regards. In this article, I recount the latest advances in matters of cultural restitution and the fight against illicit trafficking and commercialization of archaeological antiquities in the case of Mexico, and I reflect on the role that archaeologists, academics, and specialists can play to communicate and enrich the discussions about them.
