Nota Editorial
Es una satisfacción y un privilegio presentar el
número 100 de la Revista Cartográfica. Como editora (desde noviembre de
2017), miro el pasado, el presente y el futuro de una publicación que nació en
el año 1952, y que cumple 68 años de vida.
Miro el pasado de
la Revista Cartográfica y pienso en su origen, en el momento en que empezó
a dar sus primeros pasos. En este punto, el reconocimiento y tributo al
presidente de la Comisión de Cartografía Gral. Carlos Alberto Levene
(Argentina), quién ante el Comité Ejecutivo reunido en Washington en el año
1952 propuso la idea de creación de la Revista
Cartográfica, con el fin de dar respuesta a la necesidad de disponer de un
medio de intercambio de información científico-técnica.
El Gral. Levene fue
el editor de los primeros cuatro números, desde 1952 hasta junio de 1955,
asistido por Heliodoro Negri (Argentina).
Durante muchos años, hasta diciembre de 1996, los editores de la revista eran los propios presidentes de la Comisión de Cartografía, contando con el apoyo de asistentes en algunos números. El reconocimiento y agradecimiento a cada uno de los editores que hicieron posible su publicación durante tantos años: Félix M. F. Renault (Argentina) asistido por Heliodoro Negri (Argentina), Robert Randall (EUA), Juan J. Nano (Argentina) asistido por Heliodoro Negri y Pablo Dragan (Argentina), Oscar J. Colombo (Argentina) asistido por Leopoldo F. Rodríguez (Argentina), Porfirio García Gallont (Guatemala), José A. Villasana (México), Álvaro González Fletcher (Colombia) y Luz M. Valencia Carvajal (Colombia), Paul Peeler (EUA) y coeditores Scott W. Mooney (EUA) y Carlos S. Galindo Contreras (México), Antonio Hernández Navarro (México), Hermann Manríquez Tirado (Chile) y Valéria Oliveira Henrique de Araújo (Brasil)[1].
Desde 1952 la Revista Cartográfica se ha publicado de
forma ininterrumpida. Prevista con una frecuencia anual, alternó con otras
periodicidades (semestrales, anuales y bianuales) según distintas
circunstancias. En el año 2016 comenzó su publicación con una frecuencia
semestral, publicando un número regular y otro temático. A partir de 2020
comienzan a publicarse dos números regulares al año, para responder a distintos
requisitos de indexación. También durante sus 68 años de vida la revista cambió
su “cara” o imagen de presentación, cambios que se han querido reflejar en la
portada de este número 100.
Miro el presente de
la Revista Cartográfica, orientando sus esfuerzos en el cumplimiento de requisitos que
harán posible su indexación en distintos índices, bases de datos y catálogos. Para lo cual, uno de los primeros esfuerzos ha sido disponer de la infraestructura técnica que permite la
presentación en línea de los artículos y gestión de todo el flujo editorial a
través del sistema de administración de revistas Open Journal Systems (OJS), accesible
desde julio de 2019 en: https://revistasipgh.org/index.php/rcar.
También se ha registrado el DOI
(Digital Object Identifier) en la
agencia de registro CrossRef, garantizando el acceso
directo, visibilidad, propiedad intelectual e interoperabilidad de cada
artículo que se publica. Estas
acciones han marcado el presente como una nueva época de la revista, cumpliendo requisitos tecnológicos para seguir avanzando de acuerdo
a los escenarios y exigencias que rigen actualmente el complejo mundo de las
revistas científicas.
Miro al futuro de la Revista Cartográfica, con el deseo de que logre mayor visibilidad en la comunidad científica a la que se dirige; que resulte atractiva para publicar a partir de su indexación en índices, bases de datos y catálogos reconocidos por los organismos relacionados con la investigación y continúe siendo accesible con una clara apuesta por el acceso libre y gratuito, sumándose al movimiento Open Access.
El pasado y presente, que ha sido posible
gracias al esfuerzo colectivo que permitieron publicar cada número: editor,
autor, revisor, diseñador, equipo de producción, etc. En este punto quiero
agradecer a los autores que
confiaron en esta revista como medio científico para publicar sus
investigaciones, trasmitir sus ideas y conocimiento; y al trabajo silencioso y
eficaz de todos los revisores que han participado en la evaluación de los
artículos. El futuro también será posible gracias al esfuerzo colectivo y por
encima de los nuevos indicadores y
exigencias que surjan para la indexación, resulta fundamental no olvidar el
norte que ha regido la vida de la Revista
Cartográfica desde su fundación en 1952: ser un medio de comunicación o en
palabras del Gral. Levene un medio de intercambio de información
científico-técnica. No olvidar ese norte que determina que al final, las revistas existen por y para sus autores y
lectores.
La Revista Cartográfica inició su camino o recorrido en 1952, y hoy 68
años después en tiempos de grandes cambios en el mundo de las publicaciones
científicas, el objetivo es seguir avanzando con el apoyo de todos los que
hacen posible cada número, esperando que en el futuro un/a editor/a escriba: Es una
satisfacción y un privilegio presentar
el número 200 de la Revista
Cartográfica.
Sin más preámbulos, los invito a disfrutar de la lectura del número 100 y a ser partícipes de la nueva época de la Revista Cartográfica.

It is a satisfaction and a privilege to present issue 100 of the Revista Cartográfica.
As editor (since November 2017), I look at the past, present and future of a
publication that was born in 1952 and that celebrates 68 years of life.
I look to the past of the Revista Cartográfica
and think about its origin, at the moment when this magazine began to take its
first steps. At this point, the acknowledgment and gratitude to the President of
the General Cartography Commission, who before the Executive Committee meeting
in Washington DC in 1952 proposed the idea of creating the Revista
Cartográfica, in order to respond to the need of
having a means of exchanging scientific-technical information.
General Levene
was the editor of the first four issues, from 1952 to June, 1955, assisted by Heliodoro Negri (Argentina).
During many years, until
December 1996 the editors of the magazine were the presidents of the
Cartography Commission, with the support of assistants in some issues.

Since 1952, the Revista Cartográfica has
been published continuously. Planned with an annual frequency, it was
alternated with other publications (semi-annual, annual and biannual),
according to different circumstances. In 2016 its publication began with a
biannual frequency, publishing a regular and a thematic issue. Starting in
2020, two regular issues began to be published to respond to indexing
requirements. Also during its 68 years of life, the magazine has changed its
“face” or presentation image. It was intended to reflect these changes on the
cover of this issue 100.
I look at the present of the Revista Cartográfica,
guiding its efforts in the fulfillment of requirements that will make possible
its indexation in different indices, databases and catalogs. In order to
achieve this, one of the first efforts has corresponded to have the technical
infrastructure that allows the online presentation of articles and management
of the entire editorial flow, through the Open Magazine Systems administration system of magazines
accessible since July 2019 at: https://revistasipgh.org/index.php/rcar. The DOI (Digital Object
Identifier) has also been registered at the CrossRef
registration agency, guaranteeing direct access, visibility, intellectual
property and interoperability of each article that is published. These actions
have marked the present as a new era for the magazine, meeting technological
requirements to continue advancing according to the scenarios and demands that
currently govern the complex world of scientific magazines.
I look to the future of Revista Cartográfica,
with the hope that will achieve greater visibility in the scientific community
to which it is directed; that becomes attractive to publish, based on its
indexation of indices, databases and catalogs recognized by research-related
organization and continues to be accessible with a clear commitment for the
free and open access, being joined to the Open Access movement.
The past and present have
been possible thanks to the collective effort that allowed publishing each
issue, editor, author, designer, production team, etc. In this point, I want to
thank the authors who trusted this magazine as a scientific means to publish
their research, transmit their ideas and knowledge, as well as the silent and
efficient work of all reviewers who have participated in the evaluation of the
articles. The future will also be possible thanks to the collective effort of
the new indicators and requirements that arise for indexing. Therefore, it is
essential not to forget the course that has governed the life of the Revista Cartográfica
since its foundation in 1952: to be a means of communication, or in the words
by General Levene, a means of exchanging
scientific-technical information. It should not be forgotten that north that
determines that in the end, magazines exist by and for their authors and
readers.
The Revista Cartográfica began its journey in 1952 and
today, 68 years later in times of great changes in the world of scientific
publications, the objective is to continue advancing with the support of all
who make each issue possible, hoping that in the future and editor will
write “It is a satisfaction and a privilege to present the 200th issue of the Revista Cartográfica”.

new era of Revista Cartográfica.
